Meet the owner: Andy Wreakes

Last but certainly not least, we are thrilled to present Andy Wreakes, the final co-owner of the Showcase Creative trio, marking the end of our 'Meet the Owners' series. In this interview, Andy shares insights into what inspired Showcase Creative, his day-to-day responsibilities, and his hobbies. So without further ado, let's dive into our conversation with Andy!

What inspired you to start Showcase Creative?

In 2003, my good school friend Paul Batey and I graduated from university and faced a tough job market. We both had creative degrees and decided to begin a graphic design partnership. We launched FolderPrinting.co.uk to provide bespoke presentation products, including high-quality presentation folders and "paper over board" (POB) ring binders. We began applying the knowledge we had acquired in the short run “paper over board” industry and expanded the business into luxury packaging with the launch of Showcase Creative.

What do you like most about your job?

It has to be seeing the finished projects. It’s incredibly satisfying to see our designs materialise into tangible products. Seeing our creations in the hands of social media influencers and professionally photographed once the products are finished fills me with huge joy!

What does your day-to-day look like?

Typically I’m planning, managing deadlines and prioritising different projects going through the building. But what I love most is getting hands-on with product design. Often, I’ll get involved with more complex jobs to try and solve a construction challenge or finding innovative solutions. Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that our customers' visions are brought to life flawlessly.

What about Showcase Creative are you most proud of?

There are many things I’m proud of but I am very proud of how much the business has expanded over the years. Stepping into our showroom is like taking a stroll down memory lane, seeing all our past projects displayed proudly. It's a testament to the hard work and dedication we've poured into this business.

What is the most challenging thing about running your business?

I'd say one of the toughest aspects is managing an expanding team while upholding the high standards we've set for ourselves. It's a delicate balance, ensuring that everyone is aligned with our vision and maintaining the quality that our clients have come to expect from us.

What’s your favourite thing to do in your spare time?

In my downtime I love to watch sports. Rugby and UFC are my go-to choices, and I'm a proud (ex-player and now full-time) supporter of Camberley Rugby Club.

What’s the best place you’ve travelled to?

Tough question! I'd have to say following the British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand back in 2005 ranks pretty high on the list and then stopping by Vegas before returning home was a lot of fun.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I’m pretty good at poker and won a poker tournament when I returned to Vegas last year.

Are you a coffee or tea person?

Definitely coffee. Black, no sugar. I’ve never been a fan of tea.

What is your favourite animal?

I have what some would call a slight obsession with squirrels...the logo for camberley rugby team is a squirrel (fun fact: I was responsible for the recent redesign!) and I had a hubcap sculpture commissioned of a squirrel. I think the obsession comes from Camberley Rugby though rather than a love for the animal itself.

Do you have any pets?

No I'm not exactly what you'd call a pet person.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I’m very much a night owl, I prefer to have slightly longer in bed in the morning and then work later into the evening.

What three items would you take with you to a deserted island?

A rugby ball, a telly and a pack of beers!
